NIPPLE RECONSTRUCTION

After breast reconstruction, you can opt for nipple reconstruction. This operation consists in recruiting surrounding tissue (such as a flap) to create a natural projection of the nipple without the use of a foreign body. The choice of the technique will depend on the projection of the desired nipple according to the contralateral native nipple.

Frequently asked questions

When should I reconstruct my nipple?
Nipple reconstruction can be done after healing of the reconstructed breast. Your plastic surgeon will usually advise you to wait for at least 3 to 4 months after reconstruction surgery is completed. You can also do it years after.

Can the areola also be reconstructed?
Contrary to the nipple reconstruction which involves the use of surrounding tissue (flaps) to create the nipple projection, the areola is simply reconstructed by a tattoo. Today, there exists medical tattoo specialists that can recreate an almost real areola with the use of different color patterns and visual effects.
